I can’t help but imagine those enemy pilots blissfully chuckling at us helpless ants as we flee from the burn of their magnifying glass. Killstreaks shatter any semblance of balance and hand more power to players already topping the scoreboard. In my years away from the series, I haven’t missed getting carpet bombed by a $90 million jet while minding my own business. They represent the worst of CoD’s outdated traditions. We didn’t have much fun, but it’s easy to see where it can be improved. Almost no groups could finish a single mission (mine included). Enemies constantly spawned behind us in areas we’d already cleared, we never had enough ammo, and the balance felt totally off. It’s a neat conceit designed to be heavily replayable, but the version I played at the review event was in rough shape. The mode has its own custom, wide-open maps with segmented areas and character classes that support your squad in different ways. The huge battlegrounds make for an excellent place to partake in the Battle Royal style game, like Fortnite and Player Unknown Battlegrounds, that we have come to love.Modern Warfare’s Spec Ops missions trade bite-sized co-op episodes for operations more akin to Destiny strikes. The multiplayer in this game has been absolutely knocked out of the park. There are picturesque, near movie-like moments throughout. The voice acting to accompany the excellently animated character models was nothing short of fantastic.
This game has an unmissable polish present in every scene, providing moments where I forgot I was playing a game and thought it was still a high res cutscene. All the characters, cutscenes, the environments and the weapons all look incredible. This game is stunning, I cannot stress this enough.
There are a couple of specific “Night time” missions and they are absolutely fantastic. Without spoiling too much, there are a lot of likeable characters in this genuine and intriguing story that will keep you glued to the screen from start to finish. There are tense moments in this that are portrayed excellently by the characters. The story follows a few characters as they work to keep the western world safe from terrorists and freedom fighters. The story is, seemingly, pretty different from its original which I have to say is a bonus there is no reason to be playing the same game again. The gameplay is similar to that of games like Battlefield 4 or ARMA III but exchanges the vertical scope for much greater attention to detail.
